Changes to the Naturalization Application Form

Naturalization is an important step in becoming a US citizen. Naturalization procedure can take some time and requires a lot of paperwork.

Recently US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) has revised the Application for Naturalization Form N-400. The updated Form was released on February 4, 2014.

The new Form N-400 provides USCIS with additional means to determine an applicant’s eligibility. There are now additional questions to conform with the Intelligence Reform and Terrorism Prevention Act (IRTPA) of 2004 and Child Soldier Prevention Act of 2008. It also has questions concerning the United States security issues.

The revised Naturalization Application Form gives customers clearer instructions on how to complete each part of the application.

The revisions also include the introduction of 2D barcode technology that enhances efficiency of data scanning and improves data quality.

Previous editions of Form N-400 are in use until Friday, May 2, 2014. Starting Monday, May 5, 2014 USCIS will accept only the 09/13/13 edition. Note that the eligibility requirements for naturalization have not changed.
